Activity Reported: Shades of Death Road is legendary in the state of New Jersey, not only for its iconic name, but for the reports of paranormal activity that surrounds it. Tales of Ghost Lake  report unusual activity in the form of apparitions and unusual noises coming from the woods.  There is a cave on the north shore of the lake known as the Lenape Indian Cave, and archeologists have found evidence that it was used by the local Lenape people in the past.

Investigation Summation: NJPR was contacted by a television production company that was producing a series of webisodes for FearNet.com on haunted roads across America.  They asked us to help them investigate Shades of Death Road which has a long history of urban legends that surround it.  Since we considered most of these legends to not have any basis in fact we didn't expect to encounter any real paranormal activity.  But we were surprised when things started to happen.  We decided to concentrate the investigation around Ghost Lake.  One team investigating the cave experienced auditory phenomenon in the form of a woman's voice humming and singing on three separate occasions.  Another team on the shore of the lake experienced unexplained knockings coming from the woods and witnesses mysterious lights up on the hill.  Both teams recorded several EVP's during the investigation and felt a distinct presence around the lake.  NJPR plans to continue our investigation of this area in the near future.

Note: Most researchers do not consider orb photos evidence of paranormal activity as airborne particles such as dust, pollen and moisture can cause "false positives".  While we agree that most "orbs" can be explained naturally, we have found in our research that a small percentage seem to correlate to paranormal activity.  Therefore, we will post orb photos that we feel may represent paranormal activity, although we can not prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the case.
