History: The Hainesburg Mansion was built in 1828 by Andrew Smith.  In 1885 the mansion was purchased by railroad magnate Jacob S. Andress, who built on to the house by adding on a third floor, and adding the two ornate towers on the northern side.  Jacob Andress lived in the mansion with his wife, Minerva, and their sickly son, Gilbert.  It's said that Gilbert was crippled and confined to a wheelchair, so his father installed a rope elevator that covered all three floors for him to move about.  Gilbert battled pneumonia throughout the winter and spring of 1890, finally succumbing on August 11th, three days shy of his ninth birthday.  He is buried at a cemetery just down the street from the mansion.  The family held on to the house until the early part of the 20th Century when it changed hands several times and went through a variety of transitions.  In the 1920's it operated as an illegal speak easy, and in later years hosted several restaurants, shops, and even a discothèque in the 1970's that had a seedy reputation and was eventually shut down.

The mansion experienced hard times in the 1980's when it was abandoned for a number of years.  Transients used it as a flop house, and it suffered greatly from vandalism and decay.  The house was finally purchased at a sheriff's sale in 1991, and the new owner set about restoring the old mansion to its former glory.

Today the Hainesburg Mansion is currently host to the Somewhere In Time boutique, and is once again a shining jewel of the community.

Activity Reported:  Workmen who originally worked on the mansion's restoration recorded hearing the sound of toys falling from the upstairs portion of the house, but no toys were ever found.  Also, childlike scribbling that said "Gilbert's Room" appeared on a door.  One of the current residents reports standing near a closed door when the door knob rattled violently, as if someone were trying to open the door.  Upon investigating they learned that they were alone in the house.

Investigation Summation:  We were proud to be joined by our friends from Tri-State Paranormal Research for this investigation, which was also was featured in the October 30th edition of The Star-Ledger.  Right from the beginning researchers felt that the third floor was the most active area of the house.  Researcher Kerri M. from TSPR who is a sensitive immediately felt a female presence in a third floor corner room as well as an older woman's presence near one of the tower rooms.  Although researchers experienced activity on all three levels of the mansion, the "hot spot" of the evening seemed to be on the third floor.  One researcher heard someone call her name in this area while another researcher experienced footsteps directly behind him while he was alone.  Several researchers also experienced something lightly touching their heads at various times throughout the investigation.  Cold spots were felt on the first floor, and camera batteries seemed to drain at an unusually high rate as well.  Many positive photo and video evidence was collected, as well as several remarkable EVP's including the voice of a woman, a man, and what sounds like a young boy.
