History

This was our Second Investigation of Rolling Hills Asylum in Batavia, NY. Originally known as the Genesee County Poor Farm, this old facility has served as a poor house, an insane asylum, and a retirement facility. It has appeared on numerous television shows including Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures and Paranormal Challenge, and is considered one of the most haunted locations in the U.S.

Investigation Notes

This investigation was completely different from our prior investigation two years prior. During our last visit we did not have many personal experiences and the location seemed quiet (until we reviewed our evidence which proved otherwise). This time the location felt totally alive with energy, and almost every investigator had a personal experience. During the tour after we first arrived we all heard a disembodied scream coming from one of the hallways, which seemed to be a portent of what was to come. Team members witnessed numerous shadows, heard disembodied voices, and some investigators were physically touched by unseen hands. All in all, this was a fantastic investigation and we can't wait to go back.

Audio Evidence

Pipe Bang

"Go away"

What sounds like a sharp bang on a pipe is heard in the East Wing second floor hallway. Our team experienced these types of bangs during our last investigation. (Warning: course language).   Recorded in Emma's room, a former nurse at the asylum, a female voice appears to whisper "go away".

"Beautiful"

Voice

Pat asks how long Emma has been there, and a female voice whispers "beautiful".   An unintelligble voice is recorded in the nurses' area.

Faint Scream

Dead Scream

A faint scream is heard from the team coming from down one of the East Wing hallways.   While sitting alone in the morgue, Mark asks the spirits if they are aware they are dead. This is followed by a brief scream.

Harsh Voice

"Die Lisa!"

As Mark starts an EVP session at 1:26 AM in the morgue, a loud harsh disembodied voice is captured. Mark did not hear this voice at the time.   Another harsh voice was captured in the West Wing that seems to say "Die Lisa!" There was no one named Lisa present during the investigation.

Female Voice

Bang & Beep

A clear female voice is recorded. Although the voice is loud, we can not make out what it is saying.   While in the nurses area Mark and Chris hear a loud bang followed by an electronic beep. There was no equipment nearby that could have caused that sound.

Loud Tap

Whistling

The team hears a loud tap on the wall just a few feet from them.   The team hears unexplained whistling.

Whispered Laugh

Mark Hears Whisper

As Jennifer talks quietly in the background a disembodied whispered laughter can me heard.   A whispered breath is heard by Mark, who says Jennifer's name thinking it was her. It was not.

Animal Growl

"Okay"

As Jennifer adjusts her audio recorder, what sounds like a large animal growls nearby.   A voice appears to whisper "Okay" in a long, drawn-out manner.

"Jennifer"

Two Screams

Jennifer asks, "What is your name?" This is followed by two separate and distinct voices repeating the name "Jennifer".   Jennifer, Chris and Mike hear two screams coming down one of the hallways.

Laughter

Strange Sound

Whispered laughter is heard, followed by Jennifer telling Chris to stop talking.

As Jennifer comments on a piece of equipment that is working, a gutteral sound is heard nearby that we can not identify.

More Screams

Female Response

Jennifer asks, "Are you following me right now?" This is followed by another long female scream eminating from one of the nearby hallways.   Mark asks, "How long did you work here for?" This is followed by a loud female voice responding nearby. At this time we can not make out what is being said. This was not a member of our group.

Video Evidence

As the Sharon Coyle, the owner of Rolling Hills Asylum gives us a tour of the facility, an unexplained anomaly flies past her head, then seems to arc around and fly into her back. This has been determined to not be an insect or dust.

Jennifer Purcell captures a strange, colorful anomaly manifest in the basement hallway on her full-spectrum video camera.
An orb streaks across the lower-right frame in the "morgue". As we continue to tour the facility, two disembodied "woos" are heard. This was not caused by any of our team present.
Disembodied footsteps are heard walking down the empty basement tunnel by nearby investigators. A solid orb appears in the third floor nurses area. This was not an insect or dust.
Chris films an orb moving down the hallway with his full-spectrum video camera. An orb appears behind Investigator Chris DeVinney's back in the third floor nurses area.
Unexplained whispering is heard while one team investigates the morgue. What sounds like a child is heard in the distance in the basement hallway, followed by the voice of an investigator. This was not heard at the time.
Mark hears a disembodied female voice speak while the team is in the morgue. Unexplained faint music was recorded by a camera in the morgue. No music was being played at any time during this investigation.
An unexplained light reflection appears on the doorway at the end of the hallway. It grows brighter momentarily then dims. Although team members were moving through this area throughout the investigation this is the only time this light appeared. A strange, gutteral voice appears to respond to a question posed by Jennifer.
